Thursday, 17, Sep 2026 {HMC} The Republic of Djibouti has said it will not allow its territory to be used to launch attacks against Yemen’s Houthi movement, Djibouti’s Finance Minister Ilyas Dawaleh told the BBC.
Dawaleh said Djibouti’s position has not changed, responding to a question about whether the government had reconsidered its previous refusal of a U.S. request to allow American forces to use military facilities in Djibouti to conduct attacks against the Houthis.
“I don’t think that question is relevant at this time. Those who would carry out the attacks, or those who might ask us, I think they themselves are not even ready,” Dawaleh said.
He added that Djibouti does not want to become militarily involved in the regional conflict and remains committed to peace.
Dawaleh said maintaining the openness and security of the Bab al-Mandab Strait remains central to Djibouti’s policy.
