Thursday 24 Sep 2026 {HMC} Somalia and Türkiye have continued to strengthen defence cooperation, with Ankara supporting Somali armed forces with training to enhance their capabilities.
Somalia’s Minister of Defence, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, received a senior Turkish military delegation led by Major General Sebahattin Kalkan, Commander of the TURKSOM Training Base, at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Mogadishu.
The Somali National News Agency, SONNA, reported that the meeting on Monday focused on deepening defence cooperation between Somalia and Türkiye.
Minister Fiqi highlighted TURKSOM’s role in supporting the development and professionalization of Somalia’s armed forces and thanked the Turkish government for its continued support in strengthening Somalia’s security and stability.
