South West State Claims 40 Al-Shabaab Fighters Killed in Baidoa Battle

Friday, 4, Sep 2026 {HMC} The South West State Presidency of Somalia said its forces repelled an Al-Shabaab attack on the city of Baidoa, claiming that more than 40 Al-Shabaab members were killed.

In a statement, the South West State Presidency said Al-Shabaab launched the attack from two directions, using vehicles loaded with explosives.

The statement said security forces responded swiftly and took measures to prevent the attackers from harming civilians and security personnel.

According to the statement, more than 40 Al-Shabaab fighters were killed and several others wounded. Security forces also reportedly seized weapons and military equipment from the group.

The South West State administration expressed condolences to the soldiers and civilians killed in the attack and said the wounded were receiving medical care.

The administration added that it would continue efforts to combat Al-Shabaab and strengthen security in Baidoa and across South West State.
