Monday, June 8, 2026 {HMC} Security forces, who are still conducting operations to collect illegal weapons after the attack by armed militias on the Abdiaziz and Howlwadaag districts of the Banadir region, displayed a large amount of weapons of various types.
The Commander of the Banadir Regional Police, Mahdi Omar Mumin, who spoke to the media at the Elite Hotel, said that many weapons, including heavy weapons and long-range weapons, were seized, which were stored in the hotel.
“This operation is part of a series of operations in which the security forces were pursuing illegal weapons, some of which were carried by the militias who were causing insecurity in the district, while others are new weapons that were being prepared to disrupt security in the city. These weapons were stored in various locations, including the Elite Hotel,” said the Banadir Regional Police Commander.
Mahdi Omar Mumin said that operations to hunt down illegal weapons will continue, and pointed out that no one will be allowed to store illegal weapons in their homes or businesses.
Meanwhile, Commander Mahdi said that no harm occurred at the hotel, and that there was no harm done to the hotel’s security guards and staff, noting that the security forces were only carrying out their duties.
The security forces of the Federal Government of Somalia have previously displayed a large amount of weapons seized from the militants who attacked the Howlwadaag and Abdiaziz districts of Mogadishu.
