Friday 26 June 2026 {HMC} The President of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, explained the reason why the European Union imposed an entry ban on the country’s passport.
Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud ruled out that the Federal Government is refusing to repatriate Somalis in European countries who do not have the right to do so, but the Government has demanded that they be verified as many foreigners claim to be Somali when entering those countries.
He highlighted previous incidents related to this, such as people who were brought to Somalia, especially in Mogadishu, who upon examination were found to be not Somali and did not even speak their mother tongue.
“We did not reject our people who belong to this country, we have questions about how these people are being returned, someone of our color has surrendered his Somali identity so that they will not be sent back to their countries, we have never seen people who are Somali and cannot even speak Somali when they are brought back, we are confused about how these people are being brought back & their security” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
The European Union has said that it has imposed a ban on Somali passports and will not allow entry into the countries that are part of the organization because the Federal Government has refused to accept people who do not have legal status from their side and are being sent back to Somalia.
