Sunday, May 31, 2026 {HMC} — The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has begun investigations to identify real estate holdings in Kenya owned by Somali individuals who are alleged to have connections to missing funds from U.S. public assistance programs. The allegations involve members of the Somali community in the state of Minnesota.
Among the first locations being investigated are high-value residential properties in the Kileleshwa area of Nairobi, one of the neighborhoods where Somali investors have been active in the real estate sector. Some of these properties are reportedly linked to an individual who was arrested on allegations of misappropriating funds that were part of U.S. public assistance programs.
The ongoing investigations in Nairobi and other areas where Somali investors have business interests are now being viewed as developments that could have broader implications for Somali-owned companies and businesspeople operating in those locations.
