Thursday, June 18, 2026 {HMC} The Somali U-17 Girls National Team achieved a historic victory over Sudan, after defeating them 8-2 in a match of the East and Central Africa CECAFA tournament in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
The victory opened a new page in the history of Somali women’s football, as it is the first time that a national girls team has won a football tournament.
Although the Ocean Queens were eliminated from the tournament, after defeats to Tanzania and Kenya in Group A, the players still displayed a lot of effort, talent and coordination that were highly praised.
Participation in this tournament was not just a sporting event, but a symbol of the progress of Somali women’s football, demonstrating resilience, hope, and long-term efforts to overcome obstacles.
