Thursday, 6, August 2026 {HMC} Today, we officially concluded the registration process for candidates for the position of Speaker of the House of the People of the Parliament of the Federal Republic of Somalia, after the deadline set by the Committee for registration expired.
While registration was open, the Committee, in accordance with the procedures and election rules, received and registered two candidates who met the requirements for the position of Speaker of the House of the People of Somalia.
The registered candidates are MP Abdulqadir Omar Ma’alin (Daada) and MP Abdulqadir Mohamed Nur (Jaamac).
Also, the committee has planned that on Saturday, August 8, 2026, the candidates will be handed over their candidacy certificates, so that they can officially proceed to the election stage of the Speaker of the House of the People, as MP Abdirisaq Omar Mohamed, the chairman of the Electoral Committee, told the media.
MP Abdirisaq also said: We assure the Somali community that the Committee is administering all stages of the election impartially, fairly and transparently, while respecting the Constitution, the Rules of Procedure of the House of the People and the procedures established for the election.
