Tuesday, July 21, 2026 – (HMC) Commander of the Somali Navy and Coast Guard of the Somali National Armed Forces (SNAF), Rear Admiral Cabdiwahaab Cabdullaahi Cumar, participated in the Fourth African Maritime Forces Summit held in Rabat, Morocco.
The summit has brought together representatives from more than 40 African countries, including Somalia.
Organized by AFRICOM, the conference focuses on strengthening African naval forces, combating piracy, addressing illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing, countering maritime terrorism, tackling emerging technological threats, and enhancing cooperation among the navies of African nations.
During his address, Rear Admiral Cabdiwahaab highlighted Somalia’s significant achievements in improving national security and stability, particularly along its coastline.
He noted that Somalia has made substantial progress in controlling and combating piracy, illegal fishing, and terrorist threats in its maritime domain.
He further stated that Somalia is continuing to strengthen the capabilities of its Navy to ensure the protection and security of the country’s territorial waters and coastline.
The Admiral also expressed gratitude to the international community for its continued support to the Somali National Armed Forces.
The summit is expected to conclude with a joint communiqué outlining collective commitments to strengthen maritime security and enhance cooperation among African coastal states.
