Wed 10 Jun 2026 {HMC} FIFA president Gianni Infantino has defended the way the world governing body is managing the World Cup, a day before the tournament opens.
Speaking at a press conference in Mexico, Infantino said FIFA is not the king of the world who can rule over countries, and that it does not control everything.
But he called it unfortunate what happened to Somali referee Omar Cartan, who was expected to be a referee at the World Cup, who was denied entry to the United States.
Infantino defended the price of World Cup tickets, after widespread complaints.
The World Cup is expected to open on Thursday, with co-hosts Mexico playing South Africa in the country’s capital.
