Tuesday, July 14, 2026 {HMC}Â The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) announced on Monday that they had shot down another Chinese-made FH-95 unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) near the city of Al-Obeid in North Kordofan State, as fierce fighting continues against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
In a statement, the army said its air defense units intercepted the drone northwest of Al-Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan State.
The military did not identify who launched the drone. However, the incident comes as fighting intensifies in North Kordofan, where the RSF has significantly increased its use of drones in recent weeks.
The FH-95 is a Chinese-developed unmanned aircraft designed for intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance (ISR), and electronic warfare missions. It is capable of remaining airborne for more than 24 hours.
The latest interception marks the fourth FH-95 drone the Sudanese military says it has shot down in less than a month. Previous interceptions were reported in Omdurman on July 7, Tendelti in White Nile State on July 2, and north of Tawila in North Darfur State on June 23.
Sudanese officials and international human rights organizations have accused the RSF of using drones to target civilian infrastructure, resulting in civilian deaths and injuries. The RSF has not officially responded to those allegations, maintaining that its operations are intended to protect civilians.
Last month, the United Nations warned of a sharp increase in drone attacks across the Kordofan region, reporting that at least 880 civilians were killed between January and April of this year.
Since April 2023, the RSF has been engaged in a conflict with the Sudanese Armed Forces. The war has triggered one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, leaving tens of thousands dead and nearly 13 million people displaced.
