President Hassan Sheikh: The defense agreement we entered into with Turkey does not mean that we are fighting with Ethiopia

Wednesday, Feb, 21, 2024 {HHC} The president of the government of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, said that the defense cooperation agreement signed with Turkey is not a conflict with Ethiopia, which is between Somalia and Somalia due to the maritime agreement.

“We asked Turkey for help, not to fight with Ethiopia, not to attack another country. They helped us defend our country. That’s the deal we signed with Turkey,” said the president.

The president said that the Turkish government will protect Somalia’s sea and resources, including illegal fishing, dumping poison on the coast and preventing piracy.

The president said that an agreement has been in the works for a long time.

“It is an agreement that will last for 10 years, which can be amended and added to. or he can be destroyed,” said the president.

Hassan Sheikh said that the information of this agreement was hidden, pointing out that it is in the interests of the Somali nation, but he added that information about the agreement will be published soon.

The agreement which was approved by the cabinet this morning was approved by both houses of parliament today.
