Wednesday 2,April -2025 {HMC} Somali Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Ahmed Moallim Fiqi congratulated Djibouti’s newly appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Amb. Abdoulkader Houssein Omar, during a phone call on Tuesday.
Minister Fiqi reaffirmed the historic and enduring ties between Somalia and Djibouti, highlighting the countries’ shared vision of regional cooperation, stability, and mutual development.
He expressed confidence in Minister Abdoulkader’s ability to enhance regional diplomacy and further common strategic goals.
The two diplomats discussed deepening bilateral relations, expanding collaboration in regional and international forums, and strengthening strategic partnerships across the Horn of Africa.
Amb. Abdoulkader Houssein Omar, Djibouti’s former ambassador to Kuwait and Jordan, was appointed to the post by presidential decree on Tuesday, replacing long-serving foreign minister Mahamoud Ali Youssouf. Youssouf was recently elected Chairperson of the African Union Commission after nearly two decades in Djibouti’s top diplomatic post.
The decree was signed by President Ismail Omar Guelleh, who has led Djibouti since 1999 and is expected to step down at the next presidential election scheduled for 2026.
