Tuesday, April 1, 2025 {HMC} – The President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has initiated a national consultative forum to discuss the country’s situation, which has been broadly welcomed by politicians opposed to his administration.
The forum, called by the President, has invited political stakeholders from across Somalia, although the specific participants have not yet been disclosed. The President had previously called for the participation of opposition figures in discussions about the fight against terrorism and other critical issues.
Villa Somalia sources indicate that there is ongoing debate over the identities of the invitees to ensure the forum does not become an open event where any political player can attend.
According to available information, the forum is expected to include the leaders of Somalia’s regional states and former senior officials, such as former Presidents, Prime Ministers, and others who have held significant positions.
It remains unclear whether the forum will invite Jubbaland President Ahmed Madobe, whom the federal government does not recognize as President, and who was previously issued with an arrest warrant. Ahmed Madobe is among the political figures who have supported the forum called by the President.
As for Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni, it is unlikely he will participate in the forum. Deni severed ties with the Somali government years ago after a dispute with the President.
This consultative forum, called by President Hassan Sheikh, comes after pressure from international representatives. However, details about the attendees, the location of the event, and the official agenda remain undisclosed.
