Tuesday 1,April ,2025 {HMC} Puntland security forces recovered over ten bodies of ISIS militants along with weapons and documents following a recent U.S. airstrike in Togga Miraale, Bari region, military sources confirmed on Monday.
The remains were found at the site where U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), in coordination with the Somali federal government, conducted an airstrike on March 29 targeting ISIS-Somalia operatives.
The strike, southeast of Bosaso, was aimed at disrupting ISIS activity in northern Somalia, an area where the group has increasingly entrenched itself.
Military officials from Puntland said the recovered items included identification documents and logistical materials linked to the slain fighters.
The officials praised the United States for its continued support in counterterrorism operations in the region.
“The U.S. helped us greatly in destroying the group’s facilities,” said a Puntland military officer, who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the operation. “This strike dealt a significant blow to ISIS’s operational capabilities in the area.”
AFRICOM stated that the strike resulted in the deaths of multiple ISIS-Somalia operatives, and no civilian casualties were reported.
The militant group, formed by defectors from al-Shabaab, has maintained a foothold in parts of Puntland’s rugged terrain, using it as a base for recruitment and logistical operations.
Puntland officials added that operations would continue in the coming days to eliminate remaining ISIS cells in the region.
