Thursday 6,Febr, 2025 {HMC} Somali federal government has blamed Jubbaland President Ahmed Madobe for the heavy fighting that occurred in Bardhere district, Gedo region, on Wednesday, which led to multiple casualties, including the death of the district commissioner Mohamed Ilyas Caagane.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Internal Security, the federal government accused Madobe of organizing the forces responsible for the violent confrontation.
“Earlier this morning, security forces succeeded in preventing a group of troublemakers organized by Ahmed Madobe who were planning to carry out insecurity activities in the district of Bardhere,” the ministry said.
The statement further accused Madobe of engaging in illegal activities that threaten national stability and disrupt regional peace.
“Jubbaland President Ahmed Madobe is busy organizing illegal activities and harassing the Somali people. We remain committed to combating groups that we consider spoilers and are responsible for undermining peace and development,” the ministry added.
The deadly clash erupted at the district headquarters and other key administrative buildings after Jubbaland forces had peacefully taken control of the area on Tuesday, following the withdrawal of federal forces.
The battle resulted in multiple casualties among officers and soldiers, though the exact death toll remains unknown, according to local residents. The conflict underscores the ongoing power struggle between the federal government and the Jubbaland administration over control of Gedo, a region that has long been a flashpoint for political disputes.
