Wednesday 5,Febr,2025 {HMC} The federal government-appointed commissioner of Bardhere district, Mohamed Ilyas Caagane, was killed on Wednesday during heavy fighting between federal government forces and Jubbaland regional forces in Bardhere district, Gedo region.
The intense battle resulted in casualties among officers and soldiers, although the exact number of casualties remains unknown, according to local residents.
The fighting broke out at the district headquarters and other key administrative buildings, areas that Jubbaland forces had peacefully taken over on Tuesday following the withdrawal of federal government forces.
The commissioner of Bardhere district under the Jubbaland administration, Adan Mohamud Ahmed, accused the federal government of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of launching the attack.
“The federal government waged war this morning on the district headquarters, where services were being provided to the community,” Ahmed stated.
The federal government has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident. However, tensions have been escalating between the two sides, with both exchanging threats over control of Bardhere.
The battle underscores the ongoing political and territorial disputes between the federal government and the Jubbaland regional state, particularly in Gedo region, where both sides have clashed repeatedly over administrative authority.
