Somalia and Somaliland delegations attend Somali Regional State anniversary in Jigjiga

Thursday 23,Jan,2025 {HMC} Delegations from Somalia’s Federal Government and the breakaway region of Somaliland arrived in Jigjiga on Thursday to participate in the anniversary celebrations of the Somali Regional State in Ethiopia.

The federal government’s delegation included Deputy Minister of Information Abdirahman Yusuf Al-Adala and Deputy Minister of Petroleum, who Somali Regional State officials warmly received at Garaad Wiil-Waal Airport in Jigjiga.

Somaliland’s delegation, led by Deputy Speaker of Parliament Ali Hamud Jibriil and Minister of Environment and Climate Change Abdullahi Jama, was welcomed in the border town of Wajaale before making their way to Jigjiga.

The Somali Regional State’s anniversary, marked on January 23, celebrates its establishment in 1993. The celebrations have drawn other delegations, including members of the Somali diaspora, to Jigjiga for the occasion.

The Somali Regional State was initially established with its capital in Godey, under the leadership of Abdullahi Mohamed Sa’adi, its first president. The capital was later relocated to Jigjiga, which remains the region’s administrative hub.
