Wednesday 15,Jan,2025 {HMC} Somali Prime Minister Hamse Abdi Barre has praised the Puntland Dervish forces for their ongoing military operation to dismantle ISIS hideouts in the mountainous Bari region.
Speaking in Mogadishu on Tuesday, Prime Minister Barre expressed his government’s readiness to support Puntland’s efforts to defeat ISIS. “The Somali Armed Forces and the Ministry of Defense are prepared to provide any necessary assistance to ensure the success of Puntland’s operations against ISIS,” he said.
The Federal Ministry of Information also lauded the people of Puntland for their solidarity with the security forces engaged in the operation. In a statement, the ministry acknowledged the sacrifices made by Puntland forces and offered condolences to the families of fallen soldiers.
“The government sends prayers to the martyrs who have given their lives in defense of the country, its people, and religion. We extend condolences to their families and the Somali people. The Khawarij groups of ISIS and Al-Shabaab are equal enemies of Somalia, and we must unite to eradicate them,” the statement read.
The Puntland forces have reported considerable success in their recent offensive, which has inflicted heavy casualties on ISIS militants. On Monday, Puntland authorities confirmed the killing of several ISIS fighters and the seizure of eight terrorist outposts during operations in the Al-Miskat mountains of the Bari region.
