Iranian Government Denies Attempt to Assassinate Donald Trump

Wednesday, January 15, 2025 {HMC} Tehran — Iran has categorically denied any attempt to assassinate the elected President of the United States, Donald Trump, in a statement made by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in an interview with NBC News on Tuesday.

In November, the U.S. Department of Justice charged an Iranian man in connection with a plot allegedly ordered by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to assassinate the then-president-elect. Security forces claimed to have thwarted the plan before any attack could take place.

Trump had also suggested last year during his presidential campaign that Iran might have been behind attempts on his life.

“This is absolutely false,” Pezeshkian told NBC News when asked about any Iranian plan to kill Trump. “We have never tried, nor will we ever try, to do that.”

Trump, who won the U.S. presidential election last year and is set to take office on Monday, survived two assassination attempts during his campaign — one in September while playing golf in West Palm Beach, Florida, and another during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, in July.

Investigators found no evidence linking Iran to either of these incidents.

Iran has also previously denied U.S. claims of Iranian interference in American affairs, including alleged cyber operations. Tehran has pointed to U.S. interference in its internal matters over several decades, citing events such as the 1953 coup against Iran’s prime minister, as well as the 2020 U.S. drone strike that killed a senior Iranian military commander.
