Wednesday 8,Jan,2025 {HMC} Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is set to visit Beledweyne, the capital of the Hiiraan region, to address longstanding grievances between the local community and the Hirshabelle administration.
The visit follows a significant development led by a federal delegation that included Army Chief General Odawaa Yusuf Raage and National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) Director Abdullahi Mohamed Ali Sanbaloolshe. The delegation agreed with Hawadle clan leaders to transfer Beledweyne’s security to federal forces to stabilize the town and address governance issues.
President Mohamud is expected to join the delegation to listen to community concerns, particularly regarding the power-sharing process within Hirshabelle State and related political disputes.
Hiiraan MP Abdirahman Gurey urged local elders to prepare for constructive dialogue, emphasizing the federal government’s intent to address key issues. “The President has conveyed a clear message: security must be handed over to the government and then discussions will be held in Beledweyne to address and rectify grievances.”
Beledweyne has long faced security challenges, including rivalries among factions, armed militias, and clan-based disputes. Federal officials underscored the importance of centralized security in fostering stability and improving regional governance.
