Israeli Airstrikes Target Syrian Military Positions in Southern Aleppo

Friday, January 3, 2025 {HMC} — Israeli airstrikes targeted Syrian military positions in southern Aleppo on Thursday night, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. Local residents reported hearing large explosions during the strikes.

Observers stated that they heard at least seven major blasts resulting from Israeli airstrikes on defense research facilities in the Al-Safira area of southern Aleppo, which are controlled by Syrian forces. These facilities have been under Syrian military control since the ousting of Bashar al-Assad’s regime.

Israel has carried out hundreds of airstrikes on Syrian military bases after armed groups, led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, ousted Assad’s forces on December 8. Israel has justified its air campaign by claiming it aims to prevent these military sites and weapons from falling into the hands of enemy forces.
