Friday, January 3, 2025 {HMC} — According to security sources, an airstrike was carried out yesterday afternoon targeting one of the ISIS strongholds located in the Calmiskaat mountains in the Bari region.
The attack was carried out by fighter jets from international allies participating in Somalia’s Counter-Terrorism Operation.
Reports indicate that the strike destroyed one of the key strongholds used by ISIS fighters.
The Puntland regional administration confirmed that the airstrike took place in parts of the Bari mountains, where ISIS forces were believed to be present. However, no specific details on the casualties of the airstrike have been disclosed.
Puntland’s military spokesman, Gen. Mahmoud Mohamed Ahmed, stated that the airstrikes hit various locations across the Bari region where ISIS militants were stationed.
Puntland has been conducting ongoing counter-insurgency operations against ISIS groups, which have been attempting to gain control in the region and destabilize security, livelihoods, and community development. Early in the operation, 12 foreign fighters (Ajanib) were killed after attacking a military base.
