Monday 23,Dec,2024 {HMC} Somali Security Minister Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail Fartaag met with traditional elders, youth, and women’s organizations in Garbaharey district, Gedo region, on Sunday to rally support for the federal government’s plan to implement a one-person, one-vote electoral system.
Minister Fartaag urged the community to actively participate in the democratic process actively, emphasizing its role in achieving justice and sustainable political development.
During the meeting, traditional elders and other stakeholders shared their perspectives on ensuring fair and credible elections, highlighting the need for public awareness and collaboration to establish an efficient democratic system.
Fartaag reassured attendees that the federal government is committed to creating a conducive environment for elections, ensuring the people’s voices are reflected in the country’s leadership.
However, the visit has sparked political tensions. Jubbaland State First Vice President Mahmoud Sayid Adan accused the federal government of interfering in the region’s affairs. He criticized the security minister and federal parliamentarians for their presence in Garbaharey.
