Somali Prime Minister Reshuffles Cabinet, Dismisses Petroleum Minister

Sunday, 22, Dec 2024 {HMC} Somali Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre implemented a significant cabinet reshuffle, making key changes in his administration.

In one of the most notable moves, Prime Minister Barre dismissed Abdirizak Omar Mohamed from his position as Minister of Petroleum and Minerals, replacing him with Dahir Shire Mohamed.

The government did not provide an official reason for Abdirizak’s removal, even though he had strong political ties to President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and was a member of the president’s political party.

The reshuffle also included the appointment of new ministers in several critical portfolios:

Khadija Al-Maqsoumi was appointed as the new Minister of Family and Human Rights.

Bashir Mohamed Jama Goobbe took over the role of Minister of Environment and Climate Change.

Osman Ahmed Macow was named as the new Minister of State for Energy and Water.

These changes are seen as part of Prime Minister Barre’s efforts to strengthen his government and implement reforms, though the precise motivations behind some of the appointments remain unclear.
