Saturday 7,Dec 2024 {HMC} The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has promised his government will hold one-person-one-vote elections. He said this is an important step for Somalia’s future.
Speaking after Friday prayers at the Presidential Mosque, President Hassan criticized Jubbaland’s leader, Ahmed Madobe. He said Madobe has stayed in power for 13 years without holding fair elections. Instead, Madobe has organized indirect votes that many people could not participate in.
“Ahmed Madobe promised democratic elections in Jubbaland. But instead, he has refused solutions and stayed in office,” said the President.
He also pointed out that Jubbaland has not made progress in freeing areas from conflict under Madobe’s leadership. He added that Madobe’s administration only operates in Kismayo.
President Hassan urged Somali citizens to prepare for real elections. “We are ready to work with everyone to make one-person-one-vote a reality,” he said.
The President ended by saying Somalia’s progress will not stop because of one person’s interests. He promised to focus on unity, fairness, and development for the whole country.
