Somalia Frees 30 Prisoners in Sudan.

Wed 28, August  2024 {HMC}  Acting Ambassador of the Federal Government of Somalia to Sudan, Ahmed Abdi Hassan, confirmed the release of 30 young Somali men and women who had been imprisoned in Port Sudan for the past five months. They were sent back home on Tuesday.

He stated that 27 of the released individuals were men, while 7 were women. They were arrested while attempting to migrate. The ambassador also mentioned that efforts are underway to locate 11 other teenagers who were abducted approximately 1,000 kilometers from Port Sudan. “The youth were on a bus at the time of the incident,” he added.

He expressed gratitude to the United Nations’ International Organization for Migration (IOM) for its role in rescuing these young people who were trapped in Sudan, which is currently experiencing conflict between two warring factions.
