Thursday 22, August 2024 {HMC} Mogadishu University has launched a pioneer faculty dedicated to civil aviation studies.
This is a significant step towards shaping Somalia’s higher education landscape.
Speaking during the launch, the Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority Ahmed Moalim reiterated his full support for the new faculty
He emphasized on the importance of collaborative training initiatives that will accompany the program.
He highlighted the pressing need for the aviation educational offering, which aims to equip Somali students with the crucial knowledge and skills necessary for a thriving aviation sector.
Moalim added that the initiative addresses a long-standing gap that has hindered the country’s progress in civil aviation.
“In launching this new faculty, we are not just filling a gap in our education system; we are laying the groundwork for the future of Somalia’s aviation industry.
“Our commitment to collaborative training initiatives will ensure that Somali students acquire the essential knowledge and skills they need to thrive in this vital sector,” Moalim said.
The inauguration ceremony was also attended the State Minister of Civil Aviation Ahmed Jama and Abdillahi Geel-Qaad, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Aviation and Public Works, among other dignitaries.
Acting President of Mogadishu University and vice president for administration and finance, Dr. Ismail Mohamed, also expressed gratitude to everyone involved in establishing the new faculty.
He noted the considerable effort it took to bring this vision to fruition, adding that the faculty will play a vital role in improving airport operations, air traffic management, and enhancing flight guidance.
“I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the establishment of this new faculty. The foundation of this faculty represents an important step forward for civil aviation institutions in Somalia, effectively contributing to the improvement of airport operations, air traffic management, and ensuring high standards of passenger safety,” he stated.
He further mentioned that this new faculty will significantly strengthen Somalia’s international relations by providing education that aligns with global civil aviation standards.
Chairman of the Somali Universities Union, Dr. Mohamed Mohamud Hassan Biday, praised Mogadishu University for taking the lead in enhancing educational opportunities in specialized fields such as civil aviation.
The aviation faculty is the first of its kind in the country.
With the launch, Mogadishu University continues its long tradition of being a cornerstone of higher education in Somalia, providing essential training and knowledge in various fields.
