Demonstration against the AS attack on Lido Beach in Mogadishu

Monday, 5 August 2024 {HMC} Today in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, there was a large demonstration against the Al-Shabaab attack on Lido Beach.

This demonstration was attended by officials of the Federal Government and hundreds of residents of Mogadishu, who were protesting and expressing their sorrow over the Al-Shabaab attack that killed civilians partying on Lido Beach.

The participants in the demonstration, organized by the federal government, carried placards with messages against the Al-Shabaab group. The slogan of the demonstration was a campaign to eradicate the Khawarij and criticize their deviant actions.

The governor of the Banadir region, Yusuf Hussein Jimale, who was one of the officials who spoke at the demonstration, said that it is unacceptable for people to be killed every day. He called on the public to play their role in fighting Al-Shabaab.

“May God have mercy on the people who died at Lido Beach, most of them young people. You are required to turn away from the enemy and fight them together because they are bleeding us every day. He will blow himself up among people,” said Yusuf Hussein Jimale, the governor of the Banadir region and the mayor of Mogadishu.

The demonstration that took place today in Mogadishu, particularly at Lido Beach, follows an attack two nights ago by the Al-Shabaab group at Lido Beach in the Abdassis district, which killed 37 people and injured 247 others, all of whom were civilians, mostly young people partying on the beach.
