SOMA and FESOJ express concern over the detention of the Journalist Ali nor Salad.

Mogadishu, Somalia, July 23, 2024- The Somalia Media Association (SOMA) and the Federation of Somali Journalists (FESOJ) strongly condemn the arrest of Ali nor Salad, the Director Dawan Media in Mogadishu on early yesterday Monday evening as stated by the police.

SOMA and FESOJ express concern over the way his arrest was carried out, and call for his immediate and unconditional freedom. We view the detention of journalist Ali nor Salad as unfortunate,

Furthermore, it is not government ethics to dishonor a former journalist who served as the director of communications at the office of the Prime Minister of Somalia. He also worked for BBC Somali in Mogadishu.

The detention of committed journalist like Ali nor Salad, who worked for the Somali people by reporting on significant issues, is a deliberate violation of press freedom and international human rights laws, and breach to the Somalia Provisional Constitution.

SOMA and FESOJ urges the Somali authorities to ensure that his rights are protected during legal proceedings and to uphold the principles of freedom of speech and press freedom.
