The latest news on the violent protests that erupted again in Kenya

Wednesday 17 July 2024 {HMC} – In Kenya, on Tuesday, protests against the government resumed in several cities.

In the Kitengela district, in the southern suburbs of Nairobi, the police fired in a series of shots in the direction of hundreds of protestors, as confirmed by a reporter from the Reuters news agency.

Some people were throwing stones at the police, while others were burning tires.

Rueters news agency reported that a protester was killed in Kitengela area.

However, the police who were asked about it did not give any answer.

The demonstrations, which were led by young people, first started peacefully, but later turned into violence, according to eyewitnesses. Demonstrators waved Kenyan flags and shouted “Ruto out!”

Other places where the clashes between the police and the protesting groups took place were, in the center of Nairobi, where the police force used tear gas.

Reporters said several people were injured in clashes between police and protesters in Nairobi.

Similar protests in Kenya last month left at least 50 people dead and hundreds more injured.

Yesterday’s protest comes three weeks after Kenyan President William Ruto on June 26 withdrew his plan to increase national taxes.
