Sabti 06 julay 2024 {HMC} Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Friday congratulated Britain’s new Prime Minister Keir Starmer after his Labour Party came to power after 14 years.
“The United Kingdom remains a valuable ally and friend of Somalia. The Somali government looks forward to further strengthening the strong bilateral relations between Somali and Great Britain and exploring new avenues for cooperation to advance the two countries’ shared interests,” the President wrote on his X account (formerly Twitter).

The Labour Party, led by Starmer, won the UK general election in a landslide. He became the new prime minister after meeting King Charles III, who asked him to form the next government. The Conservative Party, led by Rishi Sunak, lost 250 seats in its worst-ever defeat.
“The work for change begins immediately,” Starmer said in a speech outside 10 Downing Street, the prime minister’s official residence. “We will rebuild Britain. Brick by brick, we will rebuild the infrastructure of opportunity.”
