Monday February, 19, 2024 {HMC} Press release was released from the annual summit of the African Union which has been going on for the past two days at their headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The report issued at the 37th round of the African Union summit discussed many sensitive issues, and one of the points that were specifically discussed was the internal affairs of Somalia and the violation by the Ethiopian government in Somalia.
The press release from the summit of the African Union praised the good leadership of the President of the federal government Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and the achievements of his government in the war against Al-Shabaab.
Press release was also praised for the support of the African Union ATMIS mission and other friends in Somalia who support the operations against the Al-Sabab Organization.
The report strongly discussed the agreement between Ethiopia and Somaliland in Addis Ababa on the first of January this year 2024, which was related to Ethiopia getting part of the land and waters of Somalia, and Somaliland recognizing it as an independent state from Somalia.
“The AU reaffirms its commitment to and support for the unity, territorial integrity, and sovereignty of all member states, including Somalia. The African Union called on both countries to de-escalate the crisis and have a meaningful dialogue in order to reach a peaceful solution” was said in the statement issued by the African Union Summit.
In conclusion, the African Union requested member states and the international community to increase their support and assistance to the Somali government, especially in order for the Somali forces to defeat Al-Shabaab and stabilize the areas they have been displaced from.
