Police on Friday confirmed that at least four individuals lost their lives, and two others sustained serious injuries when their four-wheel-drive vehicle was struck by a roadside bomb.

The Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was planted between Egge Dam and Bogyar along Dadaab-Garissa.

Authorities stated that the two seriously injured individuals were rushed to the hospital.

County Commissioner Solomon Chesut noted that security forces had successfully thwarted an attempted al-Shabaab assault in the same vicinity on Dec. 2.

In response to the escalating threat, security measures have been significantly reinforced in the area.

Al-Shabaab began launching attacks in Kenya around 2011, primarily in response to Kenya’s decision to send its troops to Somalia.

The military intervention was prompted by a series of kidnappings in Kenya, including the abduction of tourists and aid workers.

The deadliest and most devastating attack orchestrated by al-Shabaab in Kenya was the assault on Garissa University in April 2015, terrorists stormed the university campus, resulting in the loss of nearly 150 lives and leaving many others injured.
